Many people mistakenly think that doctors know a lot about the health aspects of food. In America, a study shows that only 27% of the 105 medical schools give the minimum requirement of 25 hours of nutritional education to their students. The situation is no better in the Netherlands.
Fortunately, many studies have been and are being conducted on nutrition and health. All these studies are available on the internet and they are accessible to everyone. Luckily, there are doctors who have proven that with nutrition almost all diseases can be prevented and in some cases cured. These doctors base their findings on scientific and clinical investigations or have obtained their insights by conducting their own investigations.
Below we give as an example a few sources on which we base our information so that you can estimate the reliability of our information yourself.
Dr. Michael Greger
> |
Dr. Michael Greger is a passionate doctor who discovered early on in his career (see first video above) how important nutrition is for health and has chosen to make the world aware of this fact.
Dr. Michael Greger employs a team of 20 people who do nothing but perform meta-analyses of food-related medical examinations. The result of these meta-analyses Dr. Michael Greger sums up together in videos of between 3 and 5 minutes.
His hundreds of very informative videos can be found at https://nutritionfacts.org. He has also given presentations on the prevention of nutrition-related diseases at Google, for example (see second video above)
Finally, he wrote the bestseller: “How Not to Die: Discover the Foods Scientifically Proven to Prevent and Reverse Disease”
Dr. Dale E. Bredesen
Dr. Bredesen has conducted research on Alzheimer’s and has written the book “The End of Alzheimer’s, The First Program to Prevent and Reverse Cognitive Decline”.
Dr. Bredesen is not the only prominent doctor who has researched the relationship between nutrition and dementia. The reason why we find his information to be valuable is that he has not only properly described the mechanism of how dementia and Alzheimer’s works, but also given a very practical explanation of how-to prevent dementia and Alzheimer’s. He explains in his book why the lack of certain nutrients is bad for our brain and which nutrients we need to prevent inflammation in our brain.
The information he provides corresponds to what other specialists who focus on nutrition, have stated is good and bad for the body. Our conclusion is therefore what is good for the body is good for the brain and vice versa.
Dr. David Sinclair
David Sinclair, Ph.D., AO is a professor of genetics at Harvard Medical School. He is one of the leading innovators of his generation. He has been named ‘one of the 100 most influential people in the world’ by Time and among the top 50 most influential people in health care. He is a board member of the American Federation for Aging Research and has received more than 35 awards for his research and major scientific breakthroughs.
Dr. David Sinclair and his team have demonstrated how we can delay and even reverse aging. The key is to activate newly discovered vitality genes. Recent experiments with genetic reprogramming suggest that we can become younger in the near future.
He has also shown through studies that simple lifestyle changes – such as calorie restriction, intermittent fasting, exposure to cold, exercising with the right intensity and eating less meat – can prolong our lives. It is estimated that we can add up to 15 healthy years to our lives if we exercise and eat properly.
Dr. Dean Ornish
Dr. Dean Ornish has spent 34 years researching the cure of severe cardiovascular disease by adapting lifestyle and nutrition. He was appointed by President Clinton to the Committee on Complementary and Alternative Medicines and by President Obama to the Advisory Group on Prevention, Health Promotion, Integrated and Public Health. He was selected as. One of the TIME 100 in integrated medicine and one of the seven most powerful teachers in the world for Forbes.
His lifestyle and nutritional adjustment program to cure cardiovascular disease is formally recognized in America and is reimbursed by Medicare. This is very unique, given the power of the pharmaceutical industry.
Ocean en John Robbins
Ocean and John Robbins have been occupied with nutrition and health for 40 years. They have established the Food Revolution Network community (https://www.31dayfoodrevolution.com) with 250,000 members. They have surrounded themselves with doctors and researchers who, just like them, want to change the world by making people aware that nutrition is all-important for their health (and to prevent diseases).
In the book “31 days food revolution”, Ocean Robbins has classified the most important ingredients according to their health aspects based on the information they have gathered from doctors they interviewed and consulted, such as the doctors mentioned on this webpage.
The classification he has made corresponds to the knowledge we have gained from dozens of other doctors, sources and medical examinations.
We base our VBB Health Score of our dishes/products on the same sources as Ocean and John Robbins.
Dr. Kris Verburgh
Kris Verburgh is a doctor, researcher, and author. He has a strong interest in new trends and developments in medicine and biotechnology. Kris Verburgh is not a researcher like David Sinclair himself, but he bases his conclusions on books and existing medical examinations, just like Ocean and John Robbins, Chris Wark and Vegan Bamboo Bar. As a doctor, he also has a strong interest in illness prevention, nutrition, aging, and neuroscience. He wrote his first book when he was 16 years old.
We particularly like his book “Longevity code”, because the book explains fairly simply which processes within the body cause aging and how you can prevent those processes and thereby prevent many diseases. We broadly agree with his recommendations in his food hourglass, but not on all points. It seems as if he had to make concessions with his food hourglass because he does not strictly follow the results of the scientific studies. We would rate good oils healthier than poultry, for example, and do not place eggs, cheese, and poultry in the same category as fatty fish. Just like most other doctors who specialize in nutrition and health, we recommend minimizing the consumption of eggs, cheese and poultry (at most a few times a month).
Chris Wark
Two days before Christmas and at the age of 26, stage 3 colon cancer was diagnosed with Chris Wark. He was operated on a tumor the size of a golf ball and a third of his colon was removed. But after surgery, Wark decided to radically change his diet and lifestyle instead of traditional chemotherapy to promote health and healing in his body.
Chris Wark is not a doctor. He is an experienced user of the health care system. After healing cancer through nutrition and sports, he studied what the mechanisms were that made it possible. He then dedicated his life to sharing his experience and knowledge with anyone who wants to actively accelerate his/her healing. He has collected more than 50 success stories from other people who have gone the same path as he on his website. He has also made a complete video course available in which he explains what kind of fruit and vegetables you should eat to make tumor cells shrink and die with the corresponding scientific evidence and he explains what you should not eat, such as processed food, animal products, milk products, and sugar, because they make the tumor cells grow.
So, if you have cancer (even stage 4), remember that there are people who have cured themselves by changing their lifestyle in addition to chemotherapy (or even without chemotherapy) by eating and exercising differently. Our advice is to be in control of your illness yourself.
Dr. Neal Barnard
Dr. Barnard has led numerous research studies that investigated the effects of diet on diabetes, body weight, and chronic pain. Dr. Barnard is the author of more than 90 scientific publications and 20 books and is the editor-in-chief of the Nutrition Guide for Clinicians, a textbook available to all American medical students. As chairman of the doctors’ committee, Dr. Barnard leads programs that advocate preventive medicine, good nutrition and higher ethical standards in research.
In the video above, Dr. Neal Barnard emphasizes that your genes do not determine your future. For example, people with a wrong variant of the APOE4 gene have a 30% statistically higher chance of Alzheimer’s. However, you can prevent that by eating differently and better.
We from Vegan Bamboo Bar, too, have delved into genes and epigenetics, the study of genetic changes in gene function without changing the molecular DNA structure. This also includes research into the influence of the environment on the expression of genes. This means, for example, that if you have poor DNA repair genes, such as BRCA1 and BRCA2, which increases your chances of cancer, you can bypass this by eating and living differently. So, you are not doomed to get cancer.
Pubmed
For the “die hards” looking for information, Pubmed of U.S. National Library of Medicine is a free tool to support the search and retrieval of peer-reviewed biomedical and life sciences literature with the aim of improving health, both globally and in person. The PubMed database contains more than 30 million quotes and summaries of peer-reviewed biomedical literature.
Thanks to PudMed, we have been able to help friends and family to alleviate serious illnesses such as fibromyalgia, cancer, mental illnesses and autoimmune diseases in addition to their regular path in conventional healthcare. We have studied many medical studies of the impact of nutrition and nutrient deficiency, supplements and minerals on health and diseases.
The common thread is that someone gets sick because of:
- What he/she eats, does not eat or eat, but cannot metabolize or something that he/she cannot cope with (for example due to his/her genes).
- Toxins that he/she receives in one way or another
- Lack of physical exercises
- Stress (enhances, but not the main cause).
So, without knowing exactly what causes your disease, you have almost 80% chance that you will get better by eating the right things and exercising. To tackle the other 20%, you have to perform tests to see what your level of nutrients, level of toxins, etc are.
